CAL STATE WATER POLO Junior all-America Freyja Berg scored 10 goals Friday as Cal State San Bernardino (6-8) swept past Grove City 16-5 and Mercyhurst College 14-5 at Cal State East Bay. Senior goalie Heather Dohy had 16 saves in the two matches for Cal State, which competes in the UC Santa Cruz Slugfest Tournament today. Joining Berg with multiple goals over Grove City were Denise Valderrama and Cheryl Salazar with three each. Abby Rich, Sabrina Marquez, Kaitlin Hartman and Sara Hastings also contributed goals. Salazar scored another three goals, while Hartman and Marquez each added two against Mercyhurst. REDLANDS BASEBALL Chapman University handed Redlands its third loss of the season with a 16-5 victory in a nonconference game. Luke Wetmore hit a solo home run, while Tom Ledda, Ryan Garcia, and Kyle Rizzo each doubled for the Bulldogs (6-3). SBVC SOFTBALL Caitlin Heath had a two-run triple during a 7-run seventh inning as visiting Mt. San Jacinto rallied to defeat the host Wolverines 11-9 in a Foothill Conference game. Jackie Gentile had three hits and scored twice for MSJC, which turned six SBVC errors into six unearned runs. Felicia Brown doubled and homered and Ashley Smith went 1-for-2 with two RBI for SBVC. Cal State San Bernardino blew a 3-0 lead in the ninth inning then escaped with a 4-3 victory over Cal State Stanislaus in a CCAA game after the Warriors’ relief pitcher walked in the winning run with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. Coyotes starter Matt Long allowed just three hits and and 13 strikeouts without a walk. He was relieved in the ninth by James Sinkes, who inherited a 3-0 lead. Roberson went 2-for-2 with an RBI and one run scored in the victory. Cal State (10-6, 6-3) and Stanislaus (3-7, 0-5) play in a doubleheader at 11 a.m. today at Arrowhead Credit Union Park. CAL STATE SOFTBALL Humboldt State edged Cal State San Bernardino, 6-5, in 11 innings and then came back to take the nightcap, 11-2, in a CCAA game called after five innings by the eight-run mercy rule. The Coyotes (10-10, 4-6) came back in the opener on Jordan Dahl’s three-run home run that tied the game at 5-5.
