Call to up costs in unfair dismissal cases

first_img Comments are closed. Organisationsresponding to the review of the tribunal system want more costs to be awardedagainst companies found to be unfairly dismissing staff. Theconsultation exercise, carried out by the Lord Chancellor’s Department as partof its review of the tribunal system, shows that one unnamed body wanted tohave the power to award “greater or unlimited” amounts in basic orunfair dismissal cases.Anotherresponse to the review, which started in May, called for tribunals to have thepower to be able to award punitive damages against employers for bad employmentpractice.Respondentsinclude the CBI, TUC, DTI and Ministry of Defence.
