Shikhar Dhawan privileged to debut on Chahal TV after match-winning hundred vs Australia

first_imgEarlier in March this year, Shikhar Dhawan had scored a sublime hundred against Australian in an ODI match in Mohali but even then he couldn’t make the cut to appear on Chahal TV, but his match-winning knock against the same opposition in the World Cup 2019 match on Sunday did the trick.India rode on Shikhar Dhawan’s 17th ODI hundred to post a mammoth 352 for 5 after opting to bat first at The Oval. Team India then bowled out Australia for 316 to win the match by 36 runs and grab third place in the points table with two wins from as many games.Yuzvendra Chahal interviews his teammates after every game they win these days with the top-performer getting preference to appear on his show and this time he had Dhawan for company.”It is a big day for me that I’m making my debut on Chahal TV. It’s been a year I think since I’ve wanted to be here. Even after scoring 143 against Australia in Mohali this year I couldn’t feature on your show. But after so much of hard work I have made it, please give me a hug,” Dhawan joked with Chahal in the funny video posted on WATCH: Laughs, antics, fun banter – This Chahal TV episode has it all courtesy the very funny Gabbar – @SDhawan25Do not miss this one – by @RajalArora @yuzi_chahal #TeamIndia #CWC19Full Video link here (@BCCI) June 10, 2019Chahal then asked Dhawan about his knock of 117 and how he paced the innings to help India reach a big total on a difficult pitch at The Oval.advertisement”I had a positive mindset. I was looking to score runs but the wicket was a bit tricky so I had to give enough respect to the bowlers as well. I knew that if we play positively against Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc without taking any risks then we can cash in later on their lesser experienced bowlers.”And that is what happened. My partnership with Rohit was amazing. We could score easily against the spinners so we didn’t have to take risks. Our presence of mind and communication was very good. All that helped a lot and we are very fit also,” Dhawan said and broke into a jig.Dhawan notched up his third World Cup hundred and his sixth in ICC tournaments (World Cup + Champions Trophy). He is now joint-second alongside Kumar Sangakkara and Ricky Ponting on the list of most hundreds in ICC tournaments.Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly top the list with seven each. Tendulkar in fact, spoke to India Today after the game and heaped praise on Dhawan for the way he batted even after getting hit on the thumb by a Pat Cummins bouncer.”He answered it (criticism) beautifully. He scored a brilliant hundred today. He must be feeling fantastic. That’s one special feeling. When you go to the hotel room and look at the mirror, you say ‘wow, I have done something special’.”Once you play for India, it’s a huge honour. These injuries take place every now and then. that doesn’t mean you leave the field and return to the pavilion. Having known the fighter Shikhar is, only when his thumb is completely gone and he can’t hold a bat, he would have gone back. I am not surprised Shikhar hung in there and made it count,” Tendulkar told India Today. Also Read | Shikhar Dhawan elated after India’s clinical win over AustraliaAlso Read | Sachin Tendulkar wants Shikhar Dhawan to break his record in ICC tournamentsAlso Read | Batsmen underestimate Yuzvendra Chahal, feels Sachin Tendulkarlast_img read more
