Canada to Build Haiti Police Headquarters

first_img Canada will build a new headquarters for Haiti’s national police after the original was destroyed in the January 12 earthquake, Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon announced on 4 November. The 9.5-million dollar construction project will “augment the capability of Haiti’s national police to coordinate their daily activities” such as stemming “violence, smuggling and human trafficking,” he told a press conference. “All Haitians will benefit from improved security,” the minister added. Cannon also announced 1.3 million dollars in funding to teach Haiti’s 7,000 policemen first aid over the next two years. Canadian police have been helping to train Haiti’s police since 1993. Their numbers rose to 134 after the earthquake from 90. At least 250,000 people were killed in January’s devastating 7.0 earthquake which flattened much of the capital Port-au-Prince. Haiti is now also struggling to contain an outbreak of cholera which hit last month and has already claimed more than 440 lives and sickened almost 6,800 people. Is there a ‘Thursday Night Football’ game tonight? NFL schedule, channels for Week 16

first_imgFor the first time this season, there is no “Thursday Night Football” game to help NFL fans get through the week. Instead, Week 16 presents Saturday contests. This Saturday, the Texans will visit the Buccaneers, the Bills will visit the Patriots, and the Rams will visit the 49ers. The advantage of Saturday games over Thursday games, of course, is more physical recovery time for players and game plan construction for coaches. Often this year, Thursday night has featured sloppy play, such as when the 49ers nearly lost to the Cardinals in Week 9 and when Browns upended the Steelers in Week 11.The NFL will not be a Thursday night football game in Week 17, either. Every game is on Sunday for the final weekend of the regular season. Kirby Smart Responds To Jim Harbaugh’s “Barking Up The Wrong Tree” Tweet

first_imgA closeup of Kirby Smart in Georgia Bulldogs apparel.AUBURN, AL – NOVEMBER 11: Head coach Kirby Smart of the Georgia Bulldogs walks the field prior to facing the Auburn Tigers at Jordan Hare Stadium on November 11, 2017 in Auburn, Alabama. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images) kirby smart georgiaTwitter/@KirbySmartUGAAt this rate, Jim Harbaugh’s ongoing war of words with half of the college football world may last until next season. It looks like he’ll have to find another new sparring partner, however. Georgia’s Kirby Smart was critical of Michigan’s upcoming trip to IMG Academy, saying that he believes the NCAA will have to step in to stop it. That earned him a tweet from Harbaugh, who said that he was “barking up the wrong tree” with any assertion that Michigan is trying to break NCAA rules. And that is enough for Smart. When asked about Harbaugh’s response, he chose not to feed things any more. From Macon.com:“No reaction,” Smart said following an hour-long speech he gave at the Minority Coaches Association of Georgia’s football coaches conference. “To be honest with you, I’m focused on what we can do at the University of Georgia to get better. That’s the most important thing to me, getting better there.”That’s no fun, Kirby. Luckily, odds are Harbaugh will find someone else to get into it with soon enough. He’s very good at that.[Macon.com]last_img read more
